Overview

The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the leadership of Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, has launched an inspiring initiative with National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) — “Haat on Wheels” — to promote the spirit of Vocal for Local and empower traditional artisans and weavers under Adopt Swadeshi campaign.This mobile van initiative directly connects authentic handloom producers with consumers across Delhi–NCR, bringing the richness of India’s weaving heritage right to your doorstep.

Now, this vibrant “Haat on Wheels” van will be visiting our University campus, offering students and faculty a unique opportunity to explore and purchase certified, handcrafted products such as sarees, dupattas, and stoles — all created by skilled weavers from across India.

Objectives of Event

·  Promote awareness among students about India’s handloom legacy and the importance of supporting local crafts.

·  Encourage responsible consumerism by purchasing directly from weavers, ensuring fair wages and sustainable livelihoods.

·  Celebrate India’s cultural diversity, showcasing the unique weaving traditions and textile artistry from different regions of the country.

·  Foster cultural appreciation among students, helping them understand the deep connection between design, tradition, and identity.

·  Create a culturally engaging experience within the university space, allowing participants to connect with the stories, skills, and heritage behind each handcrafted piece.
