Overview

“From Practitioner to Professional: Navigating the Nascent Years of a Legal Career” is a lecture series organised by Sharda School of Law, Sharda University, to help fourth- and fifth-year law students understand the early years of professional practice. As part of this series, Mr. Vikash Kumar Jha, Partner, Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Practice, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, and Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India, will deliver a lecture on“Becoming an Advocate-on-Record: The Pathway to Supreme Court Practice.” The session will be held on Thursday, 29 October 2026, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

The lecture will provide practical insights into building a career in Supreme Court practice. It will cover the eligibility requirements and process for becoming an Advocate-on-Record (AOR), preparation for the AOR Examination, the responsibilities of an AOR, and Supreme Court procedures. The session will also highlight the research, drafting and procedural skills students should develop during law school to prepare for internships, chamber experience and a career in Supreme Court practice.

Objectives of Event

  • To introduce students to the role and responsibilities of an Advocate-on-Record.
  • To familiarise students with the eligibility requirements and process for becoming an AOR.
  • To provide practical insights into preparation for the AOR Examination.
  • To introduce students to Supreme Court procedures and the research, drafting and procedural skills required in practice.
  • To guide students in preparing for internships, chamber experience and a career in Supreme Court practice.

  • Mr. Vikash Kumar Jha has over 13 years of experience in commercial litigation and arbitration. A gold-medallist graduate of National Law Institute University, Bhopal, he has experience handling complex civil and commercial disputes before various courts and tribunals.
