Overview

Sharda School of Humanities and Social Science, Sharda University is organizing a workshop on Gender disparity at home: A brainstorming Session for the undergrad and postgrad students.

Gender equality is a fundamental principle of a just and progressive society. However, despite increasing awareness and legal frameworks promoting equality, gender disparity continues to exist within the private sphere of the home. Household responsibilities, decision-making power, access to resources, education opportunities, and freedom of expression often remain unevenly distributed between men and women. These disparities are frequently normalized through social conditioning, cultural traditions, and gender stereotypes.

The home is the first institution where individuals learn social roles and values. If gender inequality is practiced or observed within families, it perpetuates unequal power relations in society at large. Addressing gender disparity at home is therefore crucial for fostering gender-sensitive attitudes and building an equitable social structure.

This brainstorming session aims to create a reflective and participatory platform where participants can openly discuss their experiences, perceptions, and ideas related to gender roles within households. Through collaborative dialogue, case discussions, and reflective activities, the session will encourage participants to critically analyze everyday practices that contribute to gender inequality and collectively explore ways to promote fairness and shared responsibility at home.
