Overview

Name of the Event: Sharda School of Allied Health Sciences, Sharda University is organizing a “Community connect program on Awareness of Diabetes Mellitus on 14th August 2025.

About the Event:

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels due to the body's inability to produce enough insulin or effectively use the insulin it produces. It primarily includes two main types: Type 1, which is usually diagnosed in childhood and results from the body's immune system attacking insulin-producing cells, and Type 2, which is more common and often linked to lifestyle factors such as obesity, poor diet, and physical inactivity. If left unmanaged, diabetes can lead to serious health complications including heart disease, kidney failure, nerve damage, and vision loss. Effective management involves a combination of medication, regular monitoring of blood glucose, healthy eating, and physical activity to maintain blood sugar levels within a safe range.

Awareness of Diabetes Mellitus in the rural areas of Greater Noida remains limited due to several factors including lower literacy rates, lack of access to healthcare facilities, and insufficient health education programs. Many residents in these areas have minimal knowledge about the causes, symptoms, and complications of diabetes, which often leads to delayed diagnosis and poor management of the disease. Traditional beliefs and limited exposure to modern medical practices further hinder effective prevention and treatment efforts. Increasing awareness through community health campaigns, local healthcare worker training, and accessible screening programs is essential to improve early detection and promote healthier lifestyles in these rural communities.

Objectives of Event

  1. To educate the rural population about the causes, symptoms, and long-term complications of Diabetes Mellitus in order to promote early detection and timely medical intervention.
  2. To promote healthy lifestyle practices such as balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and routine health check-ups to prevent and manage diabetes effectively.
  3. To improve access to diabetes screening and healthcare services by organizing community-based camps and strengthening local healthcare infrastructure and outreach programs.
