Department of OphthalmologySchool of Medical Sciences and Research,  Sharda Hospital, Sharda University is celebrating ‘40th National Eye Donation Fortnight' from 25th August 2025 to 8th September 2025.

 

In India 15 million people are blind currently. Out of those people, 6-8 millions are suffering from corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye. Corneal blindness can be treated by removing the damaged cornea and replacing it with a healthy cornea. Cornea transplant is the only alternative for the corneal blindness.

Objectives of Event

  • To create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation
  • To motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death
  • To bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea for cornea transplant procedure
