Overview

Deapartment of Physiology, School of Medical Sciences & Research, Sharda Hospital, Sharda University is organizing a workshop on "AITO – Basal Ganglia Connections/Functions/appliedon 25th February 2026.

AITO – Basal Ganglia and Parkinsonism aims to connect basic, paraclinical, and clinical sciences to help students understand movement disorders comprehensively — from the physiology of the basal ganglia and neurotransmitter pathways to the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of parkinsonism. Following the NMC Alignment and Integration Module, the event promotes horizontal and vertical integration through case-based discussions and collaborative teaching.

Objectives of Event

  • Describe the connection of the basal ganglia, including afferent and efferent pathways.
  • Explain the functional role of the basal ganglia in regulation of movement, posture, and motor coordination.
  • Discuss the neurochemical mechanisms underlying basal ganglia circuitry.
  • Correlate lesions and dysfunctions of the basal ganglia with clinical conditions, including parkinsonism and other movement disorders.
  • Integrate concepts across subjects through case-based learning.
