Overview

The Department of Biotechnology, Sharda School of Biosciences & Technology (SSBT) is going to organize “Educational Visit to National Institute of Plant Genome Research” for final year students of B.Tech in Biotechnology on 29th September 2025.

The National Institute of Plant Genome Research is an autonomous institution under Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Major research area includes: To conduct high-quality research in frontier areas of plant genomics and molecular biology, with the aim of having practical application in crop improvement and to utilize molecular biology and omics approaches along with tissue culture and genetic engineering technology to identify important genes/proteins/metabolites and manipulate these for generating plants with improved agronomic characters, biotic/abiotic stress tolerance and enhanced nutritional value.

Objectives of Event

  1. Understand Plant Genomics Research:
    • Gain insight into the latest research techniques used in plant genome analysis and functional genomics.
    • Learn about the genetic basis of important plant traits such as yield, stress tolerance, and disease resistance.
  2. Connect Theoretical Knowledge with Practical Research:
    • Relate academic concepts from biotechnology courses to real-world research applications in plant genetics and genomics.
  3. Exposure to Cutting-edge Laboratory Techniques:
    • Get hands-on or observational exposure to lab protocols, instrumentation, and experimental designs used in genome research.
  4. Explore Career Opportunities and Research Trends:
    • Interact with scientists and researchers to understand current research trends and potential career paths in plant biotechnology and genomics.
  5. Understand the Role of Biotechnology in Agriculture:
    • Learn how genome research contributes to crop improvement, sustainable agriculture, and food security.
  6. Encourage Scientific Curiosity and Critical Thinking:
    • Inspire students to ask questions, think critically, and develop an interest in plant biotechnology research
