Overview

The Lamp Lighting & Oath-Taking Ceremony is a cherished tradition in the nursing profession, symbolising the beginning of a noble journey dedicated to compassion, service and healing. This sacred ritual is inspired by the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp, whose devotion, empathy and unwavering commitment laid the foundation of modern nursing.

Lighting the lamp signifies the spreading of hope, care and knowledge, while the oath affirms the ethical and professional responsibilities that each nursing student pledges to uphold throughout their career. This ceremony marks the transformation from a learner of nursing to a true caretaker of humanity.

This ceremony marks an important milestone in the academic and professional journey of nursing students. It symbolises the beginning of a lifelong commitment to serve with kindness, competence and integrity. The lamp they carry becomes a reminder of their pledge to uphold the highest standards of nursing practice and compassion in every situation.
