Overview

Sharda School of Nursing Science and Research will host a World Diabetes Day event for nursing students on 15th November 2025, featuring a rally, poster-making activities, and display of diabetic-friendly meal.

World Diabetes Day is observed every year on November 14th to raise global awareness about diabetes—its prevention, management, and impact on millions of lives worldwide. The day was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to the growing health threat posed by diabetes. The date marks the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin in 1921, a life-saving treatment for people with diabetes. Each year, World Diabetes Day focuses on a specific theme related to diabetes care, education, and awareness, encouraging individuals, communities, and governments to take collective action to combat this global health challenge.

Objectives of Event

  • To understand the causes, types, signs, symptoms, and complications of diabetes mellitus
  • To educate individuals and communities about diabetes prevention, early detection, and management.
  • To learn and demonstrate accurate blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration techniques.
  • To promote healthy eating, regular physical activity, and weight management to prevent or control diabetes.
  • To identify the role of nurses in diabetic care, including patient education, counselling, and long-term follow-up.
