Sharda School of Law, Sharda University is organizing an Expert Lecture on “One Nation, One Election: Challenges and Prospects” on 23rd September, 2025.

About the Event:
This lecture will introduce students to the idea of “ One Nation, One Election” – a proposal to hold Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections at the same time in India. The session will explain what this idea means, why it has been proposed, and what problems and benefits it may bring.

The session will cover:

  • What One Nation, One Election means and why it is being discussed
  • The constitutional rules and changes needed to make it possible
  • Benefits and drawbacks of holding simultaneous elections
  • The main political and administrative challenges.

Topics by the Resource Person:
The resource person will explain:. How elections were conducted in the past and why the idea of simultaneous elections is coming up again, the role of the Constitution and laws in this proposal, the main political and administrative challenges, possible future outcomes for India

Objectives of Event

  • To help students understand the basics of One Nation, One Election
  • To link constitutional theory with real-life governance issues
  • To encourage students to think critically about elections and democracy
  • To provide a chance for students to discuss electoral reforms in India

    Learning Outcomes:
           By the end of the lecture, students will be able to:

  • Explain the concept of One Nation, One Election in simple terms.
  • Identify the constitutional provisions and possible amendments needed for its implementation.
  • Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of simultaneous elections in the Indian context.
  • Apply classroom knowledge of constitutional law to real-world political and legal debates.
