Overview

World Heart Day is observed every year on 29th September to raise global awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) — the world’s leading cause of death and to promote actions that support heart health and well-being. Initiated by the World Heart Federation (WHF), this day serves as a platform to educate individuals, families, and communities on how they can prevent and control heart diseases through healthy lifestyle practices and regular health checkups.

The theme for World Heart Day 2025 is “Don’t Miss a Beat.” This theme highlights the importance of timely action to prevent avoidable deaths due to cardiovascular diseases, which often cause people to lose precious moments with their loved ones. It calls for improving access to preventive care, early detection, prompt treatment, and lifestyle changes such as balanced nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol.

Celebrating this day encourages collective efforts to protect, nurture, and prioritize heart health. Activities like awareness talks, health screenings, fitness sessions, poster competitions, and community outreach campaigns are organized to motivate people to take charge of their heart health and to reduce the global burden of cardiovascular diseases.
