The departments of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Sharda School of Biosciences & Technology (SSBT) is pleased to announce an Invited Lecture entitled "TB or Not TB? Confronting Antimicrobial Resistance through Molecules, Machines, and Mechanisms" scheduled on 17th December 2025 (Wednesdy) by Prof. Sanjib Bhakta.

He is serving as Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Biochemistry in Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology, UCL and Birkbeck at University of London, United Kingdom. He is a fellow of 'Royal Society of Biology', 'Fellow of the Linnean Society of London' and 'Cipla Distinguished Fellow'. He is also a member of the 'British Society of Antimicrobial and Chemotherapy', 'The Microbial Society' and 'The Biochemical Society'.

This invited talk is designed to engage students, research scholars, physicians and faculties to sensitize with one of the most urgent global health challenges of our time—antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with a special focus on tuberculosis (TB)- need of the hour.

This lecture offers a valuable opportunity to deepen the understanding of Antibiotic or Drug Resistances in Tuberculosis treatment.

Objectives of Event

  1. To introduce students to the global burden of tuberculosis and the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance, with emphasis on drug-resistant TB.
  2. To explain the molecular mechanisms underlying antimicrobial resistance and how pathogens evade existing therapeutic strategies.
  3. To highlight the role of modern biotechnological tools, machines, and technologies in the detection, study, and treatment of resistant microbial infections.
  4. To demonstrate how interdisciplinary approaches integrating molecules, mechanisms, and systems biology contribute to the development of novel anti-TB strategies.
  5. To inspire biotechnology students to critically engage with current research challenges and explore career and research opportunities in antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease biotechnology.
