Overview

Department of Ophthalmology, Sharda School of Medical Sciences and Research, Sharda Hospital, Sharda University is celebrating "41^st  National Eye Donation Fortnight" from 25^th August 2026 to 8^th September 2026.

In India 15 million people are blind currently. Out of those people, 1-2 millions are suffering from corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye. . This can only be treated through corneal transplantation, a surgical procedure in which the damaged or diseased cornea is replaced with healthy donor corneal tissue received from deceased person, helping restore vision.

Objectives of Event

• To create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation.
• To motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death.
• To bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea for cornea transplant procedure.
