Overview

The proposed Almora–Binsar–GBPNIHE Field Study, Uttarakhand, is an integrated academic field programme for B.A. Geography and M.Sc. Applied Geography and Geoinformatics students. The field study is designed to connect classroom-based geographical concepts with direct observation, measurement, data collection and interpretation in the Himalayan environment. The study will cover the Almora–Binsar landscape, Kosi River and GBPNIHE at Kosi-Katarmal, with Almora serving as the main field base. Students will investigate Himalayan geomorphology, river hydrology, environmental change, land use/land cover, mountain ecosystems and human–environment interactions. The field study has strong academic significance because it provides students with an opportunity to apply geographical theories and practical techniques in a real Himalayan environment. It strengthens field-based learning in Physical Geography, Hydrology, Environmental Geography, Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS. Students will develop skills in systematic observation, field measurement, spatial data collection, ground validation, environmental interpretation and scientific documentation.
