Overview

Sharda School of Nursing Science and Research (SSNSR) in collaboration with NSS, and DSW, Sharda University, are organizing an event, a debate competition on 02nd December, 2024 on the theme of – “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”

Speak up for health equity! This event is dedicated to raising public awareness about AIDS while advocating for equal access to quality healthcare services for everyone, everywhere, in the fight against AIDS.

The world has the power to end AIDS—if everyone’s rights are upheld. By placing human rights at the forefront and empowering communities to lead, we can eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. World AIDS Day, established by WHO in 1988, is observed annually on December 1 to unite global efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It serves as a day of solidarity, honoring those affected by HIV, remembering lives lost, and advocating for stronger programs and policies to combat the epidemic. Despite progress since the first AIDS cases in 1981, it remains a major public health challenge. World AIDS Day is a time to reflect on the over 32 million lives lost and renew commitments to ending the epidemic.

Under the theme “Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!” WHO urges global leaders and citizens to advocate for the right to health and tackle the inequalities that obstruct progress in the fight against AIDS.

Objectives of Event

The primary objective of the debate competition is to engage students in meaningful discussions on HIV/AIDS to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and promote health equity. Through this event, students will:

  1. To deepen their understanding of HIV/AIDS, including its prevention, treatment, and societal impact.
  2. To develop critical thinking and communication skills by exploring diverse perspectives on issues related to HIV/AIDS.
  3. To foster empathy and reduce stigma by encouraging open dialogue and informed opinions.
  4. To inspire youth to become advocates for health equity and active participants in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

This event aims to empower students to contribute to creating a more informed and compassionate society.
