"From Ontologies to Knowledge Graphs: An Overview"
Date: 28th Oct 2024
Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Venue: Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Imaging & Forensics, Room 103 B, Block 2, Sharda University.
Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Imaging & Forensics(CAIMIF) is organizing an expert lecture on "From Ontologies to Knowledge Graphs: An Overview" by Prof. Sanju Tiwari, for all students, faculty members and PhD Scholars on 28th Oct 2024 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM followed by discussions.
Details of Talk:
Due to the dynamic nature of the Web every day, new trends are emerging in Artificial Intelligence to face the challenges. In 2001, Semantic Web was launched to structure the web pages with meaningful content for making intelligent machines. Ontologies are presented as a backbone of the Semantic Web to present the meaningful content on the web for both humans and machines. Ontologies became popular to classify the entities with their explicit meaning. W3C put the framework for the Semantic Web by presenting several recommendations such as RDF, RDF(S), OWL, OWL2, SPARQL, SKOS, SWRL, R2RML, SHACL, etc., but as Knowledge Graphs (KGs) introduces with AI power, gain huge popularity and adoption by the community. Ontologies are best to describe at the schema level, while KGs are widely adopted to describe at instance level. This session will explore the journey from ontologies to knowledge graphs and their challenges to overcome.
Objectives of Event
- To explore the evolution of the Semantic Web and its role
- To understand the importance of ontologies as the foundation of the Semantic Web
- To explore the role of Knowledge Graphs (KGs)
- To highlight the role of W3C recommendations (such as RDF, OWL, SPARQL, etc.)
