Overview

Sharda School of Agricultural Sciences is organizing an Educational Visit to National Phytotron Facility and Nanaji Deshmukh Plant Phenomics Facility at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. The National Phytotron Facility (NPF) was established in 1997 and is first of its kind facility in the country where live responses of the plant under controlled conditions are studied round the year. Genetics, physiology, and various biochemical parameters are studied by growing the crops under regulated growth conditions of the NPF. The facility is being maintained with prescribed bio-safety norms to test the transgenic crops. ICAR has established the state-of-art high throughput plant phenotyping facility at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, named as Nanaji Deshmukh Plant Phenomic Centre. This facility automatically observes the plants through imaging sensors under controlled environmental conditions. The voluminous imaging data taken in imaging chambers are processed through automated image-processing pipeline to derive the various phenotypic traits. These phenotypic traits are analyzed for associated gene through bioinformatics data mining with the aim to understand genotype x environment interactions in a better way.

Objectives of Event

  • To impart practical knowledge about genetics, physiology, and various biochemical parameters in crops under regulated growth conditions at National  Phytotron Facility
  • To understand plant parameters under High-tech and  throughput plant phenotyping facility at Nanaji Deshmukh Plant Phenomic Centre, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi
