Overview
Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medical Sciences and Research (SMS&R) is celebrating the ‘39th National Eye Donation Fortnight' from 25th August 2024 to 8th September 2024.
In India 15 million people are blind currently. Out of those people, 6-8 millions are suffering from corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye. Corneal blindness can be treated by removing the damaged cornea and replacing it with a healthy cornea. Cornea transplant is the only alternative for the corneal blindness
Objectives of Event
- To create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation
- To motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death
- To bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea for cornea transplant procedure
Activities:
- Activities in Eye OPD: 25th August to 8th September 2024 from 9am to1pm
Awareness sessions will be conducted in eye OPD to sensitize patients and their attendants about the importance of eye donation and to correct their myths about the eye donation.
- Quiz (for UGs) Date & Timing-12 pm 4th September, Lecture Hall
Topic – Corneal diseases, corneal transplant, Eye Donation & Eye Banking.
- Radio Talk on Suno Sharda at 90.8 FM : A talk will be given by Dr. J.L. Goyal, HOD, Department of Ophthalmology, SMS&R on topic- “Eye Donation – Why ,When & How?”
It will be broadcasted repeatedly during Eye Donation Fortnight at 90.8 FM Suno Sharda.
