Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medical Sciences and Research is celebrating ‘37^th National Eye Donation Fortnight’ from 25^th August 2022 to 8^th September 2022.

In India 15 million people are blind currently. Out of those, 6-8 millions are suffering from corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye. Corneal blindness can be treated by removing the damaged cornea and replacing it with a healthy donor cornea. Cornea transplant is the only alternative for the corneal blindness.

The objectives of the event are

• To create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation
• To motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death
• To bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea for cornea transplant procedure

Activities:

1. Activities in Eye OPD :   25^th August to 8^th September 2022  from  9am to 1pm

Awareness sessions will be conducted in eye OPD to sensitize patients and their attendants about the importance of eye donation and to correct their myths about the eye donation.

2. Radio Talk on Suno Sharda at 90.8 FM : A talk will be given by Dr. J. L. Goyal, HOD, Department of Ophthalmology, SMS&R on topic- “Eye Donation – Why, When & How?”

To strengthen the technical skills of the students, Department of CSE, School of Engineering & Technology (SET) has taken an initiative to train and prepare the student for GATE Examination on every Saturday’s(including non-working).

Through GATE students will get a chance in PSU’s as well as pursuing a higher degree from the renowned institution of India (IIT’s, NIT’s etc).

Apart from it the students who levy to work in product based companies, it will help them in their technical interviews.

1. To sensitize the community regarding Nutritional Deficiency disorders and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Fine Arts Club and along with Student Council, Sharda University presents ‘Colours of Joy’ a “Best out of waste” art event to encourage and promote cultural diversity and green practices. Teams can make the artwork on their own and submit the final work on or before 5th September.

Date: 05th Sep 2022.

Rules:

• The minimum number of members in the team shall be 8 and a maximum of 40.
• Every team needs to submit handmade artwork keeping in mind the theme of the event before the 5th of September 2022.
• The murals /artefacts should be made of only biodegradable material (use of plastic/spray paints etc is not allowed).
• The minimum size of the artefacts must be 4×6 or 6×4 feet.
• Murals can be 2D or 3D.
• The Artwork should be made in a way so that it can stand on its own.
• The artwork will be the property of DSW.
• Every team will be provided with
  • Wooden blocks/frame, Fevicol (2Kg), Cardboard (as per requirement)
  • The rest of the material needs to be arranged by the teams.
• One team can submit more than one entry

Psychological Counselling Cell (PCC) is conducting an event on WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY 2022 on 12th September 2022.

Psychological Counselling Cell raises the awareness about the preventive steps and measures for suicidal ideation. These preventive measures can be implemented by the students to cope from the challenges which they are facing in day-to-day life.

Objectives of Event:

• To raise awareness and positive practices among students.
• To improve the mental health and well-being of the students.
• To spread awareness through street play and poster rally on suicide prevention.

Outcome of the Event:

• Improved mindfulness, resilience, and coping ability.

Some of the most common diseases that impact our oral health include cavities (tooth decay), gum (periodontal) disease, and oral cancer. Children should be taught of the importance in keeping their teeth healthy and clean, because Oral health is an important parameter for overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.
